RWE Music Director – Job Description
Position Summary
The Rockford Wind Ensemble (RWE) Music Director is responsible for the artistic vision and growth of the ensemble. They will plan concerts and run rehearsals for the RWE. The Music Director reports to the Board of Directors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide program planning for each concert
- Select and arrange for the procurement of music
- Conduct the RWE during rehearsals and concerts
- Assist with recruitment and retention of members of the ensemble
- Work with the Personnel Manager to assemble the musicians needed for performances based on instrumentation and other requirements
- Participate in the publicity and promotion of concerts as requested by the Board
- Serve as the Rockford Wind Ensemble’s primary spokesperson to audiences and the general public
- Ensure program notes and biographical sketches of guest performers are available for the program
- Coordinate arrangements with individual and group guest performers and conductors
- Attend and participate in monthly Board of Directors meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in music or related field
- Five years teaching or conducting experience
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Pay is commensurate with experience.
